The island of Krk and the village of Kornić

Kornić

The village Kornić is located 4 km to the east from the town Krk town, on a hill overlooking the Punat bay and the city Punat (2.5 km) with the largest port on the Adriatic and the picturesque island of Košljun, where monastery is situated.

In the village Kornić, there are supermarket, restaurant, bakery, café and post office.

City of Krk

The capital city of the island – Krk – is located 28 km to the south from the bridge to the mainland on the south coast of the island. In the picturesque old town from Venetian period, there are well preserved city walls, city gates, stone fortification, church and the cathedral.

In the narrow streets of the old town and marina are numerous cafés, restaurants, post office, bank, supermarket and shops, pedestrian promenade with market place. From the city of Krk, as well as from other places on the island is a wide range of boat trips to neighbouring islands and beaches. There are plenty of pebble beaches with stone slabs.

Krk Island

Thanks to its area ​​of 410 km is the largest island in the Adriatic (48 km long and 20 km wide) and it is located opposite the Kvarner Bay.

Krk Bridge in length of 1309 m. Entry to the island is charged once. The island has the airport of Rijeka town. The eastern part of the island is barren and rocky because of dry winds unfavourable for vegetation. Grain, wine, figs and olives grown in the western and southern side of the island. Specialties of the island of Krk are the cheese and wine Žlahtina originally from the town Vrbnik.

The island has a good ferry connections to the neighbouring islands Cres, Lošinj and Rab.

On the island, there are various holiday and sport facilities – diving school, scooter for rent, water and road bikes, boats, water skiing, camping and so on. At Glavotok Cape (15 km), there are natural reserve and monastery from the 16th century.

Near the coast from Galvatok to Krk, there are suitable places for diving and underwater fishing.
